Car Stereos: Stereo resetting with immobilizer

Question
Hi Brian,

I have recently purchased a '92 Mazda MX-5 and fitted a JVC KW-XR614 stereo. Everything works fine however when the car immobilizes, the stereo resets itself. I have tried running a connection straight from the stereo to the battery to try to bypass the immobilizer, however this doesn't seem to work.

Any suggestions you have for me would be a great help.

Thanks,

Sarah

Answer
Hi Sarah,

Sorry about the delay in answering your question.

My only suggestion would be to ensure that you're connecting the correct wire from the head unit to your constant power source.  Your head unit has two power wires; one yellow and one red.  The yellow wire needs to be connected to a constant power source, while the red wire is for the key-switched power source.  If the wires are reversed, then it will result in the condition you're describing.

If you're certain that you have the wires connected correctly, then you might want to verify that the pin positions are correct--occasionally, you'll get a wire harness that has wires pinned in the wrong location.  This is very rare, however.

Hope this helps!

Brian
