Towing Issues: Illegally towed??, dangerous curve, storage yard

Question
On 12/12 my vehicle stalled on I-65 N. bound (Birmingham). I managed to get it on the shoulder near the grass. I called family they picked me up. This was approx. @ 10pm. When we went back the next day with the wrecker company to tow it, it was gone. After getting the car out of impound the orange sticker from State Troopers read 10/13 @ 7:10 am, it made it to the storage yard @ 11:55 am. How long do I have to move my stalled car from the highway? According to the timing on the car and tow record they tagged it and allowed for about 5 hours for it to be moved. Please tell me what the law is as far as timing. Thanks

Answer
Well by my math, the vehicle was parked there for over 9 hours before it was tagged by the police.
Now I know some of that area as I come up from Dothan a bit with tows, and I see lots of the interstate is marked "NO PARKING"

So as to time frames, it depends on a few factors.

NO PARKING means exactly that, no parking at anytime

Now another issue comes into play here and that is the "traffic hazard" the parked vehicle creates. I do know that in the state regulations there are time frames before a vehicle is declared abandoned on the roadside, but it also allows for vehicles to be towed for traffic hazards...
This could mean that it is close to the edge of the roadway markings defining traffic lanes.  Or it could be in a dangerous curve and not seen even though it is on the shoulder...

A lot of this is dependant on what the police officer determines the conditions to be. Bear in mind also that some times vehicles left even 10 feet of the roadway are hit by vehicles who do not pay attention while driving... Things are real hard to say exactly what and why they are left parked for weeks and some last only hours.

If you want some confusing reading then do a search for Alabama Codes referring to abandoned vehicles.  Section 32 is where you can start reading and you will find that it has a lot of double talk and other issues, but I could not find a specific time frame that a vehicle is to be left before towing from the Highways..
