Car Stereos: Kenwood KDC-mp225 will not eject a DVD, kenwood cd player, kenwood kdc mp225

Question
QUESTION: I accidentally put a DVD into my Kenwood CD player and it will not eject the disc.  Yet, the deck is still working just fine (in radio mode - it will not switch to CD mode).

When I hit the eject button, it does not respond, so I'm unable to retrieve the DVD from the unit.  Is there any workaround to remove the disc from the unit?

ANSWER: Hi Kris,

There is a very small, recessed button on the front faceplate of your head unit, located between the "SRC" button and preset 1.  You can press this button with the tip of a pen.  This should reset the head unit and cycle the CD-eject mechanism.

Note that pressing the reset button will also return the head unit settings to the factory defaults, so you'll need to set your clock, audio and station presets again afterwards.

Hope this helps!

QUESTION: Brian - thanks for the tip!  Unfortunately, the reset did not trigger an eject,
so the disc is still stuck in the unit.  Is there any other way to get at that
lost disc??

Answer
Hi Kris,

Sorry the reset didn't work for you.  Usually, in a case like yours where the head unit isn't recognizing the disk, a reset is the easy fix.  This is the first time it's failed me.

Unfortunately, I don't know of another way to eject the disc short of taking the CD player apart.  You might try just disconnecting the head unit's power for a few minutes, by removing the vehicle's radio memory fuse--this is just another version of the reset, so I'm not sure that it will work, but it's worth a try.  (If you have trouble finding the memory fuse, let me know the year and model of your car, and I'll see if I can find out where it's located).
