Car Stereos: car stareo, wire colors, factory radio

Question
how do i hook up the xd1222 to my 2000 dodge stratus

Answer
Hi,

The best option is to purchase a wire harness adapter and mounting kit for your vehicle.  Using solder and high-quality electrical tape, or solderless "crimp" connectors, connect the wires on the adapter harness to the wires in the plug that came with your head unit.  The wire colors should match; any wires that aren't used should be taped off so they can't short out (except for the black ground wire from the head unit).  You should make your connections on the work bench, not in the car.

There's no ground wire in the factory radio plug in a 2000 Stratus, so you'll need to connect the new deck's ground wire to a metal part of the dash structure in the radio cavity.  There are two screws that you'll see at the bottom of the radio opening after the factory deck is removed; I usually loosen one of the screws and attach my ground wire underneath it, using a ring terminal.  After that, connect the wire harness adapter to the factory radio plugs, then plug in the new head unit.

Hope this helps!
