Car Stereos: installation, dodge ram 1500, radio chassis

Question
I am wanting to put a new stereo in my 2000 dodge ram 1500 single cab but the last person that had it cut the stereo wires. I was wondering if you could tell me the color code for them.

Answer
Hi Josh,

Here's what I've got for a 2000 Dodge Ram:

Constant power:  pink
accessory power:  red/white
Ground:  black/blue or black/green
Illumination:  black/yellow
Dimmer: orange
Remote: light green

Speakers:

Left front (+): dark green
Left front (-): dark brown/red
Right front (+): violet
Right front (-): dark blue/red
Left rear (+): brown/yellow
Left rear (-): brown/light blue
Right rear (+): dark blue/white
Right rear (-): dark blue/orange

Data wires:  violet/brown and white/black

Some notes:

The ground wire was originally attached to the factory radio chassis, so it may be separate from the other wiring.

If your new radio has an orange or orange/white illumination wire, it should be connected to the black/yellow factory illumination wire.  The orange dimmer wire should be taped off.  If you don't have an illumination wire on your new head unit, then tape off both factory wires.

The light green remote wire is only present if the truck is equipped with the Infinity sound system.  If you have the Infinity system, connect the light green remote wire to the new head unit's blue/white wire.  This will activate the factory amplifiers.

The two data wires should be left disconnected, and taped off so they can't short on anything.

Hope this helps!

Brian
