Car Stereos: installing sub and amp to oem stereo, center channel speaker, stock speakers

Question
I have two amps and one sub woofer from a previous car.  One amp powered the sub and the other powered all my door speakers.  I now have a brand new 2009 maxima and was wondering if there was a way to install this set-up with the factory stereo I have now?  I really don't want to replace any door speakers or the factory unit.

Answer
Hi Tony,

Installing an amp and subwoofer is generally a pretty straightforward job with just about any OEM audio system.  The task of installing a 4-channel amp, while retaining stock speakers, is likely to be trickier; I'm doubtful that the benefits would be worth the effort.

Unfortunately, I don't have very detailed wiring information on the 09 Maxima.  From what I can tell, most of these vehicles will be equipped with a factory subwoofer and center channel speaker, in addition to the woofer/tweeter pair in the front doors and full-range speakers in the rear.  I'm not sure if the front, rear or center speakers are driven by a separate factory amplifier, however.  If you're sure you want to install a multi-channel amp for your stock speakers, in addition to a second amp for the sub, you might want to consider an OEM integration device like a Rockford 3Sixty.   If you decide to just add a subwoofer and amplifier, you can use a simple 2-channel line output converter to connect the amp to the factory audio system.

Hope this helps!
