Car Stereos: wiring 2001 focus, pioneer radio, fm antenna

Question
I have a 2001 ford focus and I'm trying to install my pioneer deh-1100mp and the pioneer deh-1100mp comes with male to male cables but the stock stereo doesn't because it's a european stereo. How do I wire it so that I can install it?

Answer
Hi Justin,

You should be able to connect the new head unit to the factory radio plugs using an adapter harness.  The correct part for you car is Metra's 70-1770 harness (although several other manufacturers make a similar harness that will work just as well).  The adapter harness will fit the factory radio plugs (it might not look like it will fit, at first; but if you keep trying you'll see how they go together).  The adapter harness will come with bare wire ends that will match, color-for-color, the wires that come with the Pioneer radio plug.

You'll also need a mounting kit, to make the new head unit fit the opening in the dash, and an antenna adapter, because the Focus uses a different size AM/FM antenna plug than the after-market head unit.  The correct antenna adapter is Metra's 40-VW10.

Hope this helps!
