Car Stereos: No power, many different reasons, aftermarket radio

Question
I tried to install an aftermarket radio in my 02 acura tl. i had an aftermarket in before and when i installed it, the radio worked for a while and then went out and no i cant get power to it at all. i tried to reinstall the previous radio but still no power. i checked fuses and redid wiring. what could be the cause of this problem? a

Answer
Damien, there are many different reasons why the radio is not working.  It may have gotten shorted internally, and will need repaired.  It may have blown a fuse or fusible link somewhere causing it to not get power.  A wire may have gotten disconnected somewhere.  To investigate the problem quickly, you would reconnect the old radio.  Since you did that, and it doesn't work either, the problem is probably in the car wiring.  I would check the power wires with a multimeter to see if they are getting any power.  If not, then I would move to the fusebox and see if power is getting to that fuse of the fusebox.  If it is, then the problem is somewhere between the fusebox and the radio end of the wire.  Hope this helps, Scott
