Car Stereos: 98 grand cherokee no audio on aftermarket cd player, internal amplifier, aftermarket radio

Question
i am not sure why i dont have any audio i have aftermarket wiring kit and is connected correctly but still no audio any suggestions

Answer
Bryan,  Most of the time I tell everyone to double check all connections and be sure everything is correct and secure.  Then, if they have already done that, I explain that usually the next step is to have the unit checked out, because they inadvertently shorted out the radio on installation.  Unfortunately, stereo manufacturers put output wires on their radios that are live power wires, and if they touch any piece of metal under power, they short out the radio's internal amplifier.  Why they don't put a fuse on those wires, I don't know, but that is usually what happens.  To double check, before taking the radio into the repair shop.  Hook up the original radio back in to the car.  If it plays, then you know something is wrong with the aftermarket radio.  Hope this helps, Scott
