Car Stereos: Intalling Amp & Subs using line level converter in 08 Altima with Bose, 2008 nissan altima, nissan altima

Question
Brian,

I just bought a 2008 Nissan Altima with a factory Bose system and would like to add an amp and sub to enhance the current system. In my 2007 Altima I had just used a line level converter off of the rear deck speakers to accomplish this. In the new Altima with Bose it seems that there is a factory amplifier under the rear deck. I am now sure if a line level converter will work in this application and if so which wires to tap from. Please let me know if this is something you could help me out with.

Thank you,
Mike

Answer
Hi Mike,

A line output converter will always work if it's placed between the factory amplifier and speaker; it doesn't matter if the amplifier is located in the stock head unit, like your last car, or if it's located in the trunk.  You just need to make sure you're connecting to an output that carries the audio range you want to use for your after-market amplifier; for example, if you're installing a subwoofer amp, then it wouldn't do you much good to connect your line output converter to the speaker wires for a tweeter.  Your best option is to look for the wires that run to the factory subwoofer, and connect your LOC there.

Hope this helps!

Brian
