Car Stereos: STEREO POPPING, electrical surges, volt system

I recently installed a Bazooka bass box in my truck.  Now whenever I hit the brakes, turn on thelights, turn on the windshield wipers, I get a loud pop.  I am thinking it is from electrical surges in the 12 volt system.  I ran the hot power supply directly to the battery.  What can I do to stop the popping?

Answer
First, be sure there is a fuse within one foot of the battery on your power wire.  Second, double check your ground wire.  The ground wire should be as large as the power wire, and it should be as short as possible to the nearest ground point.  Be sure all connections are secure, and the popping should go away.  Hope this helps, Scott
