Car Stereos: 2003 Camery, installing subs and amp?, watt amp, factory speakers

Question
QUESTION: I have a 2003 Camery with the JBL six disc cd player. I need to know how to install my amp and subs... Will I need a after market deck, door speakers and back dash speakers? Not sure if I have to bypass factory amp or how it all works? Help!

ANSWER: Mindy, subs and sub amp are pretty easy to install. The signal comes from the leads connected to the rear speakers.  You just splice into the existing wires.  The power wires can be run from the battery or fuseblock or from existing power wires in the trunk.  The negative wire is connected to the nearest piece of metal.  That is it.  It is very simple for a professional and it requires no modifications to existing system.  Hope this helps, Scott

QUESTION: I will be using a power wire with fuse connected to the battery, running back to amp. If I install a aftermarket deck, running cables from deck to amp as well... once factory door speakers are hooked up to the deck, will they work? I had a blazer with extreme sytem and I remember there being some type of problem with the factory amp and speakers continuing to work once system was installed??? I thought the factory amp had to be bypassed?? Also, I will not splice wires... I want it done right. I have a 1400 watt amp, 700 watt amp(its extra), power wires, rc cables, ground wires and 4/12in subs with custom ported box. All are high quality and expensive. I just need to know about factory equiptment before I start installation. I will eventually replace factory door speakers, but need to know if they'll work in the meantime with all other modifications installed? I hope more info helps... thanks again!

Answer
Yes, your factory speakers will continue to work just as they do with the factory radio.  Some cars have a factory amp that needs to be bypassed, but your camry is not one of them.  Also, if you are installing a 1400 watt amp, you are not going to be able to hear the factory door speakers anyway.  Most car radios have about 15 - 25 watt output, so your door speakers are pumping out 20 watts, while your subs are pumping out over 1000 watts.  Trust me, you wont hear them.  Sounds like a cool system.  The RCA cables do require a little more work, but do allow for more control from the head unit.  That will work nicely.  Good Luck, Scott
