Car Stereos: 2004 dodge durango stereo system and dvd, 2004 dodge durango, durango stereo

Question
QUESTION: scott,i have a 2004 dodge durango with factory infinity system and it has a 6disc cd player and dvd system and i am having problems.i can't get system to change from radio station to cd player or dvd.when i hit the mode button to change to cd or dvd it does nothing but stays on radio station and my dvd doesn't power on at all, what seems to be the problem and i can't even eject my cd"s

ANSWER: There are 2 possible problems.  First, the cd player may have gotten disconnected from the rear panel of the radio.  Pull the radio out, and be sure the cd player is securely plugged in.  Second,if there has been a battery change or battery accidentally got drained, the truck may need to be reprogrammed to tell it there is a cd player attached to the system.  Most computer controlled radios will reset to just radio mode, until the computer is programmed for the additional accessories.  Hope this helps, Scott

QUESTION: Scott,I have just put a new battery in yesterday cause the old one was drained/dead and truck would not start so i got a new battery. My wife drives the truck and she said that when she pushes the mode button to cd or dvd that it wouldn't change to neither so i assumed like you said that the battery got drained and lost cd/dvd program.now that i put the new battery in,i tried to push mode button again to see if switch from radio to dvd/cd it still didn"t work and also i told u wrong about the dvd not coming on cause it does comes on,sorry. So u said that the computer needs to be reprogrammed for the cd/dvd,how do i go by doing that?

Answer
Yeah, all of the components in the truck go through the computer, and the default in the computer is that you have just the standard radio.  The computer, then, does not supply power to connections that may not be hooked up.  However, yours is hooked up, but the computer does not know that.  The dealer has a handheld computer that they plug in under the dash, and they just tell your truck that you have the cd player and then it supplies the appropriate power.  There are many cars and trucks out there that loose memory like that when the battery goes dead or is changed, and most have to be taken in to a dealer to be unlocked.  Good Luck, Scott
