Car Stereos: car audio, amp alternator, poor circulation

Question
i have a class d 1501 audio pipe amp with two audio pipe 750 watt subs. when i keep the base low it plays when i turn it up the amp goes into protection. and comes right back on, i have a 200 amp alternator a 0 gage ground. whut do i do.

Answer
Hi Jay,

The amp going into protection is one of two things: overheating, or the impedance is off.

Take a multimeter, and test the impedance across the subwoofers.  It should be equal to or HIGHER than what the amplifier is rated to handle stably.  If the numbers are lower than the subs are rated for, they'll need replacement.

If those check out, see if you can move the amp or find a way to get more cool air across it as it may be overheating due to poor circulation or its location.

Also, if those aren't issues, you might simply need to replace your amplifier.
