Car Stereos: wires on a new radio, 2003 chevy caviler, power antennas

Question
I bought a new radio to go in a 2003 chevy caviler and I bought a 70-2003 wiring harness and the new radio has 2 dark blue wires and the wiring harness doesn't have a dark blue so where do they go? Thanks

Answer
Hi Betty,

In a Cavalier, you shouldn't need to use the dark blue or blue/white wires on your new head unit.  These are used to activate power antennas, or factory amplifiers; and neither is likely to be equipped in a Cavalier.  You should be able to just tape off the wires and leave them disconnected.

Keep in mind that with the 70-2003 harness, you won't be able to use the red wire in your vehicle.  The Cavalier doesn't have a key-switched power wire in the radio plug.  You'll need to leave the harness' red wire disconnected, and extend the head unit's red wire to a key-switched power source at the fuse box or ignition harness.

Hope this helps!
