Car Stereos: 1999 Yukon CD Player, gm trucks, single cd player

Question
My Yukon has a separate single disc CD player located below the radio in center of dash.  It is skipping and I would like to replace it.  Is this CD cartridge type player still available and how hard is it to replace?  The radio itself is working fine.  Thanks.

Answer
Hi Frank,

The single CD player of the size and type in your Yukon is only found in full-size GM trucks and SUV's; there's no after-market replacement available.  However, you should be able to obtain a replacement through your dealer's parts department; or they're widely available through used parts vendors or even on eBay.  The same unit was used in many GM full-size trucks, SUVs and vans between 1996 and 2000.  A CD player pulled from a 97 Silverado (for example) should fit your Yukon without a problem.

Installation is extremely simple, and requires no tools. You just have to pull off your dash panel; unclip the radio, and pull it out so you can unplug the CD player; unclip and remove the CD player; then snap the new CD player into the dash and plug it into the radio.  You don't even need to remove any screws.

Hope this helps!
