Car Stereos: subwoofers and amp, cadillac cts, amplifier installation

Question
My son wants two Kicker 12 inch subwoofers and amp put in his Cadillac CTS 2003. Will they fit in this car? Thank you so much!

Answer
Hi Beth,

I don't think there'd be any problem fitting a double 12" subwoofer system and amplifier into the trunk of a CTS.  Installation of an amplifier and subwoofer isn't quite the same as replacing the factory speakers or radio; the amplifier can be mounted anywhere there's space, and the size of the subwoofer box is limited only by the available room in the trunk (and your willingness to give up cargo space).

I'm guessing that he's going to be using the subwoofer with the factory radio, rather than an after-market replacement, as this car is a nightmare when it comes to installing an after-market radio.  If so, a bit of custom work will be required to make the amplifier work with the factory audio system.  There's no need to remove the stock radio to make the connections; instead, the signal wires he needs can be found at the factory amplifier, located on the driver's side of the trunk.  I don't recall where the battery is located in this car; it might be under the rear seat, which would make the amplifier installation much easier.

Please feel free to ask follow-up questions if you need help with the installation.

Hope this helps!

Brian
