Motorcycle Repair: replacing choke cable on XR650L, brass piece, tiny bit

Question
Hi there. I'd like to replace the broken choke cable on my 2006 XR650L. I've never taken a carb apart but I'm mechanically inclined. Do I have to take the carb apart to put a new choke cable in place? My main problem is with the choke cable end that goes into the carb. Not sure how to remove the old one and put a new one in.
Thank you

Answer
Saied,

-the choke plunger is held in the carb
by a fitting that just screws out,
you may need a small wrench
to loosen it.

-The cable goes into a little brass plunger with a spring
on it. Just pull the spring up and you
should be able to slide the cable end
out of the brass piece.

-It may help to loosen any adjusters you
have to give the cable more slack.

-Slide the new cable in and hold the spring
up on it to slide the brass piece back on.
You will be able to see the slot where
the cable end fits in.

-Screw it back in the carb and adjust it so the
cable has a tiny bit of slack to allow the
choke to close.
