Car Stereos: Auxillary Input Issue, pioneer head unit, source button

Question
Hello,

I have had my Pioneer DEH-P6600 deck for 5-6 years.  It was installed by an electronics retailer and I have had no problems with it until about 2 years ago, when the deck will not let me switch to the auxillary input.  For example, when I push the "Source" button on the deck, nothing will happen, even though this should change the source to the Auxillary source (like an iPod).  This button also happens to be the on/off button for the deck, so if I hold the button in for 3 seconds, the deck turns on/off, so I at least know that the button works.

I have removed the deck from my car and all the cables are still connected properly.  I even went and bought a replacement cable, but that had no effect.

If it is not the cord/wiring or the button, then could you tell me why this may be happening?  Is something broken in the deck that it now does not recognize the aux input?  Any way that I could fix it?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Answer
Hi John,

I assume you're using a P-bus adapter (plugged into the blue port on the back of the head unit).  The DEH-P6600 doesn't have any other auxiliary input, so the P-bus adapter is the only way to go.   However, when you use a P-bus adapter for the auxiliary input on a Pioneer head unit, you have to turn on the Aux setting in the setup menu.  The default setting is "off", so I'm guessing that the head unit lost its power connection about the time you lost this feature.

Here's how to turn the Aux setting back on:

Press and hold the Source button until the unit shuts off.

Press and hold the Function button until the clock appears in the display.

Repeatedly press Function until you see "AUX".

Use the up or down buttons on the 4-way switch until the Aux setting shows "ON".

Press the Source button again to power the unit up.  "Aux" should now be one of the source options.

If you need a replacement owner's manual for your head unit, you can download one through this link:

Hope this helps!
