Car Stereos: Car Wiring, gm factory, factory integration

Question
On my 2003 Chevy Impala I have the aftermarket cd player hooked up, but the only wire i dont is the 12v switched wire(yellow wire).  I dont know where and how to put that wire so it will shut the cd player off when i shut the car off.

Answer
Hi Ronnie,

If the deck is currently working, but not turning off when the car is off, then you have a wire crossed/double connected somewhere.

Your deck has 3 wires for power:

Ground
12V constant (has 12V all the time.)
12V switched (has 12V only when car is on.)

Yellow is almost always constant.  That wire should be connected to the car's constant power.

Red is almost always switched.  That wire should be connected to the car's accessory.

If the deck is working now with a wire not connected, then you've either got a wire doubled up, or your deck is one of the decks that will happily work without a constant, and you have the constant from your car wired to its accessory output.

Also make sure you install the GM factory integration harness.
