Car Stereos: Car speakers, crackling noises, crackling noise

Hi Brian. I have a 2005 Toyota HighlanderLimited with 6 speakers i get a crackling noise only from the rear door speakers it sounds like crackling fire wood do you thing its the amplifier or the speakers going bad.Thanks for any help you can give me.

It's hard to say for sure, but I think it's more likely that you have bad speakers.  Most OEM audio systems, even with "premium" sound packages like Toyota's JBL option, use fairly cheap and lightweight speaker materials.  It's possible that the speaker cone's surround material is torn or rotting; or the adhesive that holds the cone to the basket may be coming apart.  In either case, the result could be popping or crackling noises from the speaker.
