Car Stereos: Installing new deck on 03 Chevrolet Silverado without Onstar. WITH BOSE, bose speakers, chevy silverado

Question
Brian, I recently read your write up on installing a new cd player, amp, speakers on a 2004 Chevy Silverado.  I plan on installing the same setup: deck, speakers, amp, & subs. I was wondering which interface unit would I need for a 2003 Chevy Silverado NON Onstar WITH Bose sound system?  Can I still use the GMOS-04 interface?

Answer
Hi Jon,

The GMOS-04 would be the right interface if you were installing a new head unit, and keeping the Bose speakers and amp; but if you're installing your own amp and speakers, you'd need a GMRC-01 or GMOS-01.  The question is whether the Bose amplifier will remain in the system.  If you're replacing the Bose speakers, you should bypass the Bose amplifier and wire your new speakers directly to the head unit or after-market amplifier.  The GMOS-04 is made to work with the Bose amplifier, so you wouldn't use it in this case.

The GMRC-01 and GMOS-01 are similar, but the GMOS-01 is made to work with Onstar while the GMRC-01 is not.  Either will work in your truck, and you might have an easier time finding the GMOS-01.

Hope this helps!

Brian
