Car Stereos: Car Stereo Wiring, dual voice coil, car stereo wiring

Question
We just got a 4 channel amp (2-16 ohms per channel), 2 12" subs 1200w/5ohms, and 2 tweeters 200w/4ohms, and deck, we are trying to figure out how to wire them the best. Which speaker to which channel? Can we hook up all 6 speakers to just the amp or can we leave the 2 door speakers hooked up to the deck (thats how the truck came)? If you can give me a scenario on how to wire them to get the best sound. We are trying to hook up ourselves to save $. Also on the 12's how to run the wires to the amp since it has 2 pos and 2 neg, a pair on either side?Thx for your help.

Answer
Hi Louie,

If the tweeters you got are real tweeters, I wouldn't bother amplifying them -- making very high frequency sound doesn't take much power.

Bridge the amp and install the subs on it.  If you want more info on how I'd hook up the subs, give me more details on your amp and subs.  (Specifically, single or dual voice coil, how many ohms per coil (I think you typod on 5 ohms, I don't think there's any subs in existence that are 5 ohm), and how your amp handles bridging and at how many ohms per channel when bridged.
