Car Stereos: car stereo, load impedance, 8 ohm speakers

Question
can i connect my home stereo's speakers (1000 watts) with my
car stereo using a 2 channel amplifier...........will it harm
my car battery or not?

Answer
Hi,

You can connect any speaker to your car amplifier, provided it doesn't have an impedance that's below the minimum load impedance for the amp.  A home speaker usually has an impedance of 8 ohms.  Because all car amplifiers are designed to work with 4-ohm speakers, a pair of 8-ohm speakers shouldn't be a problem.  However, the amplifier won't produce as much power as it would with a pair of 8-ohm speakers.

Hope this helps!
