Car Stereos: Installing aftermarket stereo in 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee w/ Infinity Gold System, jeep grand cherokee, infinity gold

Question
QUESTION: Hi, I was trying to install an after market stereo when I came across a problem. I'm not sure how to install the pre-existing infinity amplifier to my new stereo. Most are done with RCA cables but this ones seems to be an existing single black wire right next to the ground power. It says amp on the connector, but not on the wire. How would I transfer this to my new Pioneer radio? (I have wiring harness from previous installation)

ANSWER: Hi Michael,

As long as you have the aftermarket harness, you shouldn't need to worry about that -- just hook up the wires from the new deck to the harness and everything should just clip together.  You won't need to worry about any other wiring.

QUESTION: Just to clarify...even though this black wire that is for the amp isn't in the harness with the other wires, I shouldn't need to worry about it?

Thanks

Answer
Hi Michael,

What I'm suggesting is that if you have the correct harness for your stereo, then you should have a matching wire for it on the other side.  'amp' sometimes means the remote wire off of the new deck that tells aftermarket amplifiers to turn on -- something your OEM amp may not need at all.
