Car Stereos: AMP SETTING FOR COMPONENTS, amp output, filter frequency

Question

Hi,

I have a set of CDT CL 62 (6.5") components for my front's and a set of CDT CL 69 components for my rear.  I have a Kicker zx 650.4 powering them, what should I set my HZ at for these components?? since they come with a cross over should I max out the HZ?? Thanks in advance.

Answer
Hi Loane,

What you set the filter frequency at depends on the speaker's rated frequency response, and your preferences.

For a 6.5", I'd set the frequency response to cut off somewhere in the 100-150Hz range, as you don't want them trying to reproduce low end bass.

As for 6x9s, I'd go somewhere in that range again, maybe as low at 80Hz, but that's my own personal preference.

If you have independent crossovers, then I'd let the amp output full range, and leave the crossover to do the job of deciding on what frequency to send to the speakers.
