Car Stereos: Sony Xplod Radio, sony xplod, wise idea

Question
I just got a radio and going to put it in my car but dont have the money for instalation yet and I want to test it out in my house is there any way to give it power thru the wiring harness or anything

Answer
Marcus,  It not a wise idea to plug your radio into a house adapter.  If you can't live without it, you need to find a ac to dc converter plug that comes with most of your electronic gear.  It must convert from 12 to 14 volts.  No more and no less.  Then, you cut the round plug off the end, and strip the two wires back alittle.  Then, you need to plug it in, and test which wire is hot.  The hot wire needs to be connected to the yellow and red wires form the radio.  The other wire needs to be connected to the black wire.  Then connect the speaker wires to your speakers.  Then make sure all other wires are capped off and not touching anything.  Then plug in the adapter, and your radio should turn on.  I would not recommend doing this at all.  If anything is not just right, you run the risk of blowing up your radio.  Just be patient and wait to get the parts your need for installation.  All you need for installation is a mounting adapter and a wiring adapter.  Together they are about $20, and you can install the radio yourself.  Hope this helps, Scott
