Car Stereos: Kenwood cd player car stereo, kenwood cd player, cd player car

Question
QUESTION: Hello,
I had a Kenwood cd car stereo detachable face player. After hook up in a Honda, the cd player plays great. The radio will not play. The channels show and no stereo light. But there is no reception, not even local channels. Any idea what could be happening here? Maybe a fuse? I hook the antenna up to my old radio and it plays fine. Please help.
Thank you.

ANSWER: Mike, it does sound like an antenna problem.  Make sure the antenna plug is exactly the right kind for your car.  If your radio has auto mute, check and see if you can turn that off.  It will let you know if it is receiving any signal at all.  If so, then it is definitely the antenna, and you may need a new antenna wire or an antenna amplifier.  If there is no sound at all with the auto mute off, then the radio is probably broken.  Hope this helps, Scott

QUESTION: Thanks for the tips. It's good advice. One other thing to mention. A new antenna was gotten, but still no sound. Do you think the radio is bad?

Answer
Mike, if the whole antenna wire was replaced, then I would say that you should take your radio in to get checked.  Most stereo shops can check your radio for you, and tell you if it works or not.  If you just replaced the antenna itself and not the wire going to the antenna, then I still think it may be an antenna wire issue.  You can still take the radio to a stereo shop and have it checked, and it will definitely answer that part of the problem.  Let me know how it goes, Scott
