Car Stereos: 2004 mustang convertible v6 speaker wire, factory speakers, ford mustang

Question
I'm replacing my front and rear factory speakers (6x8).How do you determine which color wire is + positive and - negative. It's a 2004 ford mustang convertible V6

Answer
Hi Daren,

The only way you'll be able to tell when you look at factory wiring is to check the car's service manual, or to look at a wiring harness designed to go into your car for aftermarket stereos.

Look at the harness, see which pins are negative, and which are positive, and then match them up to the matching pin on the factory harness, and see what colour that is.  The colour should be consistent right from the harness into the back of the speakers.

If you're replacing the factory wires, you shouldn't be using any of the factory wire anyway, and then you can run your new wire however you like into the aftermarket harness.  As long as the one you decide is positive gets plugged into the positive of the deck and the speaker, it doesn't matter which way you put them in.
