Car Stereos: car radio removal, vw bug, vw beetle

I need to remove my original Saphire radio from my 1970 VW bug. I removed all the stuff to get to the radio under the hood but didn't clearly see how to remove it. Any tips?

Hi Ron,

Sorry for the late response; I hope this arrives in time to do you some good.

Unfortunately, I've never had to remove the original radio from an older VW Beetle.  The reference materials I have available aren't all that detailed, but it looks like you just have to access the trunk to disconnect a rear support bracket.  You'll need to pull the knobs from the front, and remove the nuts that secure the shafts to the front dash plate.  After that, and once the rear support bracket is free, you should be able to pull the radio out under the dash from inside the cabin.

That's the best I can do with the resources I have available, but in all honesty, I'm not sure how applicable it is to the actual vehicle.  Sorry I can't be of more assistance!
