Car Stereos: 4runner radio, jbl synthesis, external amplifier

I have the plane radio in my 08 4runner and am wondering if i can install the 6 cd sat radio in it and what else i may need thanks

Hi Bill,

There are two different OEM 6-disk head units available for your 4Runner:  a standard AM/FM/6-CD unit, and one made for the optional JBL Synthesis system.  The standard unit would work in your vehicle, but the JBL version would not.  The JBL Synthesis system uses an external amplifier and additional speakers that you don't have.

The satellite radio tuner is a separate item, but from what I can tell, it's only available with the JBL head unit.  It doesn't look like it would work with the standard 6-disk head unit.  The satellite radio tuner isn't built into the head unit; it's a separate piece, and it would require a satellite radio antenna which isn't currently equipped on your vehicle.

You might want to look into after-market options for upgrading your 4Runner's sound system.
