Car Stereos: 94 Saturn CD, stereo repair, laser lens

Question
I have a 94 Saturn Am/Fm Radio and replaced it with a 94 Saturn Am/Fm/CD w/Equalizer.  When I insert any CD into the player the face immediately displays "Er 01".  I found that if a cd is just 1/4 the way in the player, the error is displayed.  If the cd player doesn't get a chance to play, the playback may or may not be OK.  My question is: What does the Er 01 mean and how can I get the CD portion of the radio to work?  Thanks.

Answer
Steve, Er01 is just a general alert that something is wrong with the cd player.  There may be different things that are wrong with it.  Normally, a dirty laser lens will throw this alarm, and you can just run a lens cleaning cd a few times to get it to read cds again.  However, many times this does not work, and the problem may be something else.  If the lens cleaner didn't work, the radio will have to be removed and repaired.  Most stereo repair shops will be able to fix the radio for around $100.  Hope this helps, Scott
