Car Stereos: removing a factory fitted radio from a 95 landrover discovery, landrover discovery, european cars

im trying to remove the original radio from my disco because my kids have bourght me a cd player, i took it to my local car parts place and he tried with the wires down either side of it but he couldnt get it out, any ideas would be appreciated

Your car parts guy had the right idea.  Sometimes, different manufacturers come out easier than others.  Most European cars use the same little rods.  The little rods pry little tabs out from the radio.  Sometimes, you must push in a bit on the radio as you are pushing the rods in to alleviated pressure.  Once the rods are completely to depth, the radio should slide out.  Maybe you could try another stereo shop to attempt the removal, perhaps a shop that handles more European cars.  Hope this helps, Scott
