Car Stereos: jammed cd, aftermarket radio, butter knife

Question
I have a 6 CD player in my vehicle (it came with the vehicle) and I have a CD that is stuck - I was ejecting the CD when it got stuck and has been stuck like this now for months.  The CD player will do nothing but tell me there is a CD error. Can I remove the CD some how or what can I do?

Answer
There is no clear cut answer for this problem.  Normally, the mechanism gets wore alittle and gets loose.  It doesn't take much for a cd to slip out of the groove and get stuck.  I have had best results using a butter knife to stick in the slot and try and dislodge the cd from it's jam.  I have scratched/cracked a couple of cds, but they have come out.  The ones that do not come out require the radio to be removed and tore apart.  Most times it is easier to buy an aftermarket radio and just replace the damaged one.  Hope this helps, Scott
