Car Stereos: Radio Intermittent, aftermarket radio, gm truck

Question
I have a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban with a factory installed radio and separate factory installed CD player. After the radio or CD player runs for a few minutes it stops working. The lights indicating the station that it is tuned to (if operating radio)still appears in the LCD or led display. It appears after getting into the radio that the amp is built into the radio. I am wondering if something is wrong with the amp and as it heats up it either opens or shorts a circuit. Is it common for that to happen? what else could it be?? Is there any way to test it???

Answer
Actually, yes this is a common problem with the GM truck radios.  It is not repairable, and you can either replace with another stock stereo that may short out again, or just install an aftermarket radio and forget about the factory stuff.  Hope this helps, Scott
