Car Stereos: Missing car door chime, 2004 chevy cavalier, chevy cavalier

Question
I recently installed an after market stereo in my 2004 Chevy Cavalier.  After several hours I got everything working properly.  However, the door chime doesn't come on anymore.  The first time I turned my headlights on because it was raining I forgot to turn them off when I turned my car off because the door chime couldn't warn me that they were on.  What do I have to do to get it back?

Answer
Hi Greg,

GM, in their infinite wisdom, routes door chimes and some other vehicle warnings through the factory deck, and as such, as soon as you put an aftermarket system in there, you lose them.

You can get them back by buying an aftermarket part from any car stereo shop called a "GM factory integration adapter".  It'll be anywhere from $50 to $150 depending on what features your car has (OnStar, premium system, etc.)
