Auto Racing: 1978 malibu rearend, ford 9 rearend, spring perches

Question
-------------------------
Hi John, Thanks for the quick response,The problem i'm having is that the spring perch on my 1978 malibu is mounted by way of a bracket in front of the axle not directly over the axle. The ford 9" rearend the guy built for me was also mounted directly over the axle and he tells me that's where it should be for my malibu.Every rearend i've looked at that was suppose to fit my 1978 malibu has spring mounts that mount directly over the axle. Since mine mounts in front of the axle do i have some kind of odd ball rearend. Also it is a malibu laundu model, Could this model have a different rearend from the other malibu?

Question -
Hi John,I'm having a problem getting the right rearend for my car. I had a guy set up a ford 9" rearend for me but the brackets are not right. He says that the car is a G-body and everything that i see looks like it's a A-body.There is a guy on e-bay selling a 9" rearend Item number: 7940941927
3.50 GEARS, DIRECT BOLT IN TO GM A-BODY! Could you tell me if this will work in my 1978 Malibu? Also for the record could you tell me for sure if it is an a-body or a g-body?
         Thanks for your time

Answer -
HI BRUCE,I'M NOT SURE IF YOU KNOW BUT ,A BODY AND G BODY USE THE SAME REAR,A=MALIBU '78-'87+G BODY=MONTE CARLO,BUICK REGAL ETC. THE REAR YOU SAW ON EBAY WILL FIT....TECHNICALLY.IT'LL BE AN INCH OR 2 WIDER YOU MAY NEED OTHER WHEELS ,THE SPRING PERCHES WOULD HAVE TO BE RELOCATED(CENTERED OVER THE AXLE TUBE),UPPER CONTROL ARMS SHORTENED OR AFTERMARKET(HOTCHKIS,ETC.)ARMS FOR EARLY CHEVELLE ORDERED FOR CORRECT  PINION HEIGHT .A DRIVESHAFT REPLACEMENT WOULD ALSO BE NECESSARY. GOOD LUCK  JM

Answer
HI BRUCE ,YOUR REAR GUY IS CORRECT ,LANDAU MEANS NOTHING IN THIS CASE,SPRINGS MOUNTED IN FRONT OF THE TUBE  MEANS IT'S FOR A '65-'72 CHEVELLE TYPE CAR .THEY'RE EASILY RELOCATED,VERY IMPORTANT IS UPPER CONTROL ARM LENGTH. FOR THE CORRECT PINION ANGLE . GOOD LUCK JM
