NASCAR Racing: Logo designer, target audience, nascar logo

I am working on a school project and I have been searching for information on the Nascar logo itself. The logo we see today when did it come into existence? Who designed the logo? What was the target audience? Why did they use the colors they did?  If you could answer these questions I would be grateful to say the least. I have been searching all night and have come up with nothing. So while searching I found your site and hope you may be able to help.

HI Donna,
I'm not too sure about the specifics of the logo itself.  It has been the same since 1948 when NASCAR was founded.  They picked the colors because it was trying to attract a bold, powerful audience.  Plus, they wanted it to look pretty cool.
