NASCAR Racing: Largest Sport, tv viewership, formula one

I have been told that 2nd to soccer NASCAR is the largest sport in the world.  Is that at all true?

Answer
All my available reference sources actually point to volleyball as the 2nd largest sport in the world (number of federations and people who play- worldwide).

As for "TV viewership" I also find sources that list NASCAR 2nd to Formula One in world popularity for motor sports.

So, much as we love NASCAR, I don't believe it to rank 2nd in the world.
