BMW Repair: 2001 BMW 330ci, odometer button, gauge reading

Question
I noticed that the temperature gauge is reading -40, my trunk sensor says that it is open and i can not open the convertible roof.  I was also wandering if i can reset the oil life indicator since i have the car's oil changed somewhere other than a dealer since i do not live near one.

Answer
The temperature gauge reading -40 is an indicator that it is not working or unpluged.  Check the probe under the front bumper to see if it became disconnected.

It may be that the open trunk sensor overrides the oonvertible roof, so work on that one first.  Check the power to the switch and the switch itself to see which one is not correct.

The oil life indicator can be reset as follows:  Hold the odometer button down for about 5 seconds when you turn the key from off (position 0) to accessory (prosition 1). When you first turn the key, you will see "test 1", don't let go of the odometer button until the display changes to show "reset". Once you see "reset", let the odometer button up, then press and hold it again for about 5 seconds until the "reset" starts flashing. Once it is flashing, let up on the odometer button then press it one more time. Now you should see a message that says "END SIA" and your oil service light should be reset.
