QuestionThe power sunroof on my 2003 530i started making a cranking noise when opening and closing. Sometimes not doing either. When closed, it is sealed fine. When closing, it sometimes closes 3/4 of the way, then seems like it hits something in a track and completely opens again on its own (there's nothing in the track that I can see).
Any tips for adjustments?
AnswerAdjustments to the sunroofs can be very tricky. Do a google search on adjusting them for an e39 BMW and see if you can find one you're comfortable with. But be careful: Easy to create a major problem with them.
Also, check on lubrication. Some suggest vasoline, etc.
Sorry for no specifics, but have seen several get into trouble on making "minor" adjustments to their BMW sunroofs.
