BMW Repair: 1987 325is just stopped running, car mechanics, auto mechanics

Hi,
Yesterday afternoon I came to a stop sign and the car just died, like I turned
off the engine. I tried to restart and it cranked but never turned over. The
only other clue i have is that the night before half of the dash lights were out.
I put a charger on the battery but it was fully charged. I really know nothing
about BMW's as this is my first one. My mom is trying to help me to but we
don't know a lot about car mechanics. Our auto repair place in town in not
familiar with BMW's and isn't open till monday and I need to get to work. I am
16 and this is my first car and we are clueless. can you tell us where to start
looking? please help!!!

It could be many things, and if you're not too familiar with auto mechanics, diagnosing it could be difficult.

Let's try though.

You said you were able to crank it, but it never turned over. Did it try to run, and stumble?  Or did it just crank the starter?
