BMW Repair: yellow engine light on, bmw owners, routine service

Question
Hi,
I wonder if you could help...the yellow engine light has come on on my 2006 BMW 318SEi having driven it 12 miles after it came from a routine service. The car "chugged" and made a loud knocking noise. I turned it off and it had to be towed away. I was told that the fault was the "hand-brake shoe". This doesn't make sense to me and I would really appreciate if you would give an opinion. There is nothing I can do about it, but I am certainly thinking about not having it serviced at the main dealer as there is a BMW mechanic that has started up business and I feel the work would be more reliable. Am I just paranoid??

Thanking you

Mary

Answer
Yes, you are paranoid.  However, most of us BMW owners are.

Give the independant mechanic a try.  Most of these are very good.

Since you are at a point where you don't trust the dealer's mechanics (though most are very good), its' not worth wonder every time you take it in
