BMW Repair: e46 air conditioning, bmw shop, heater valve

Hi Evan, first thankyou for taking the time to help with my problem. I have a 2001 e46 318i nj00084. I have an a/c problem. When I put the a/c on the heater comes on as well. I have found that if I set the control to face and feet, I can get cold air on face but hot on the feet. If I set to just face I get warm air from the top vents. The a/c is very cold when on face but for some reason the hot coolant doesn`t seem to bypass the heater core when the a/c is on. Ant ideas? Thanks again

Nigel, sounds like the heater valve (or water valve) maybe malfunctioning. Pinch the inlet (hot) heater hose off and see if the temp changes, make sure the thumbwheel between the center grill is set to full cold. Or take to your BMW shop to have diagnosed.
