BMW Repair: MIL Code 0445, oil filter housing, external fuse

Question
Evan, thanks for helping me before, but I need some more help again.  I just replaced my altenator and battery in my 2002 530i.  When I started it up, I noticed that I had a "service Engine Soon" indication.  I read the code from the OBDII and P0445 " Evaporative Emission System Purge Control Valve Circuit Shorted" displayed.  The last seven of my VIN# is CH98906.  I can only assume that I must have done something when I disconnected the battery, but I followed the Bentley Manual instructions for everything. Here is my dilema:
1.  Where is the EESPCV located?
2.  Is there is a simple test to check a mechanical malfunction in the valve?
3.  Is there an external fuse that could have blown and where is it located?

Answer
Dwayne the Purge Valve is under the front of the intake manifold by the oil filter housing. Little round black two wire solenoid. It controls the feed of stored fuel tank vapors into the engine to be burned. The valve should vibrate or tick when the engine is warm and running. Sometimes they get sticky. When the valve is operating or should be operating pull the connector and check for power and ground at the connector. If you have both then the fuse, signal (it will be pulsed), and ground is good. If fault returns replace the valve as long at the Vapor hoses are connected correctly. Apply voltage (12Volts) and ground to the valve and you should get air flow through it.
