BMW Repair: headrest, definate answer, side seat

QUESTION: On my 2000 528I the front right side seat headrest will not go up or down while pressing the control on side of seat. I do not hear any sound from motor. How can I get head rest to go down.

ANSWER: Herb you will have to take the rear backrest cover to access the motor. You can test for voltage at the motor or at the switch. Try tapping on the motor and using the switch if power and ground are good and present at the motor.

Herb usually there are two philips screws at the bottom of the backrest cover. remove those and pull the backrest down and off. Some my not have the screws and are released the opposite way by pulling on the upper portion of the backrest cover to release the spring clips at the top and then pull the back rest up. Haven't done one in a while so I can't picture what it looks like. Repair instructions didn't help either. Sorry I don't have a definate answer for you. I don't have an E39 to look at.
