BMW Repair: dashboard dead, bmw radio, instrument clusters

I have a 2003 330I vin# km28042. Yesterday the dash died. No lights. The gauges don't work, nor do the signals or the passenger mirror. When I start the car you can hear a funny noise for a few seconds then it stops. Right now I can drive the car, but I am scared senseless. What do you think it could be? There was no warning that I can remember. It has 74400 miles and I have the maintance up to date. I did have the radio/cd changed to a non BMW radio. Please point me in the right direction.Thanks.

Colette, did the dash function happen at the same time the radio was changed? Faulty instrument clusters are not uncommon. I would have the radio connections checked by a BMW dealer to make sure that the installer did not tap into any wires that may cause the cluster to act up or short out. Also LIN bus mirror motors that have gone bad can do things like this.
