BMW Repair: 1998 540i 6 speed sport model, intake leaks, speed sport

Question
my 540 dies out when I come to a stop or am turning the steering wheel at either a light or in the parking lot--replaced maf but still doing the same thing--dies out---when I disconnect the cable to the maf cant get car to move when I step on the gas---rpms seem to lower than normal---thx

Answer
Rick, I would check for intake leaks, cracked intake boots and hoses, Clean out the idle valve and throttle body of carbon and engine build up. check the PCV plate on the back of the intake manifold for integrity. The dealer can increase the idle speed RPM permanently with their diagnosis machine, but usually there is a cause to the low idle and stalling.
