BMW Repair: BMW MR 3.2 T REG VIN- NA51565, camshaft timing, wiring loom

OIL SEAL ON VANOS UNIT BLOWS OUT WHEN ENGINE STARTS.
THE PART OF THE VANOS UNIT IN QUESTION HAS A SMALL PLATE WITH FOUR BOTLS AND A WIRING LOOM AT THE BASE,
THE RUBBER SEAL/GROMET ON THE WIRING LOOM BLOWS OUT FOLLOWED BY THE OIL.

Robert, haven't personally run into this before but the parts diagram shows a couple things. There is pressure regulator valve on the side of the Vanos unit            PN (11 36 1 318 643). I would attempt to change that first. I would recommend checking the oil pressure but You probably wouldn't get a normal reading due to the leak. If the pressure regulator doesn't fix the issue then I would replace the entire Vanos unit (11 36 1 404 701) Do not attempt this repair yourself as too many factory special tools are required to correctly set the camshaft timing.
