BMW Repair: idle speed, bosch spark plugs, bmw 318i

Question
I recently bought a '91 BMW 318i convertible.  It was sold cheap because of the low/stalling idle on first start up of the day.  I have mechanically turned up the idle 1 turn, replaced the fuel filter and put in new Bosch spark plugs. It starts and idles better in the morning but isn't great yet.  What is the correct idle speed, rpms for this model? Currently it is idling at 1100 rpm when warm.  What more could I look for?

Answer
Len,
1100 rpm is too high for that engine.  It will work and run, but its wasting fuel.
Mechanically changing the idle by the idle screw is not the proper way to fix the problem.  Its kinda like putting a band-aid on a broken leg!  The problem lies in the electrical system and one of the sensors.  Most likely its the ICV (Idle Control Valve).  Usually you can remove it and clean it out with carb cleaner and it will work.

 Hope this helps,
 Josh
